Estella Scholes

Estella Scholes

Here is the first interview with one of our participating artists at the Sheffield Artist’s Book Fair which will take place on 5th October.

ARTIST NAME: Estella Scholes

How did you become involved in artist’s books?
I started making book art about ten years ago after going on a course at The Regional Print Centre, Wrexham. I like working with sequences of images, so book art is a natural extension of my work as a printmaker. I like the idea of holding an art work in the hand.

What is the focus of your practice?
My source material comes from the eroded textures, shapes and colours of natural and manmade forms found on the coastline of North Wales. Collagraph, etching, monoprint, handmade paper and occasional poetry come together in my books.

What are you working on at the moment?
Currently, I am working on sequences of printmaking and book art which reference the inevitable plastics found along the shoreline.
